Welcome to our FAQ page where we aim to answer some of the most frequently asked questions that we receive.
How do I apply the 10% discount on underlay?
You don’t need to do anything! We have already factored in the 10% discount into all underlay costs.
Why do I need an underlay?
Underlay acts as a cushion and more often than not, a moisture barrier between your flooring and the subfloor. Choosing the right underlay for the correct installation is vital.
Thermal Insulation
The heat insulation of our homes is important; this can help save money on bills and to be more eco-friendly.
Underlays will reduce the heat loss through the floor, with some underlays performing better than others. Their thermal Insulation is measured in ‘tog’. The higher the tog rating, the more the underlay will reduce the heat loss.
Underfloor Heating
Underlays for underfloor heating systems are still measured in ‘tog’, but this time we do not want to insulate the floor – we want to allow the warm air from the underfloor heating system to be able to pass through the underlay. So in this case, the lower the tog rating, the better.
Sound Impact Insulation
Impact sound insulation is measured in decibels. Generally the higher the decibel rating, the better sound reduction the underlay will have.
What are the differences in material between your wood & laminate flooring underlays?
We currently stock 3 different materials; PE Foam underlay, XPS Foam underlay and Sponge Rubber/Rubber underlay.
PE Foam is 100% recyclable. It is lightweight and multi-purposed.
XPS Foam is our lightest underlay. It comes in the form of 5mm thick boards with 9.79sqm coverage per pack. It is also dust and fibre free which means it is cleaner to install. In being extremely lightweight, it is easy to lift and move around – helping to get the job done quickly.
Sponge Rubber/Rubber underlays give better sound reduction and better heat insulation than our XPS and PE foam underlays. As well as this, it is also the most durable and comfortable underfoot.
What is a SQM (m²)?
A SQM, M² or Square Metre denotes an area equivalent to a square with 1m sides. All underlay is manufactured in either 10m² or 15m² roll sizes. Please see our measuring guide.
